Independent Reading
Points for Independent Reading:
In order to receive credit for books read, students must complete a reflection.
Reflection Options:
Additional Points:
10 Points: In addition to completing a reflection on a book, students may choose to either write a short book trailer or create a poster, drawing, or some piece of art over the book. Either of these options earn an additional 10 points.
10 Points: Students may earn 10 points for every DIFFERENT genre they read from. They will need to remember to write the genre on their reflection form in order to get credit.
10 Points: Students may earn 10 points for every Sequoyah book they read from this year's list. I have attached this list to the end of this letter.
10 Points: Students will be given an opportunity to participate in a book talk with their table mates at least once per nine-week period. Their participation in the book talks is 10 points.
Using AR goals to earn Independent Reading Points
Points will be given for AR based on the percentage of their AR goal that they have met. For example, if their AR goal is 10 points and they get 2 points, that is 20% of their goal. They will receive 20 points toward Independent Reading for having met 20% of their goal. Please remember, reflections must be completed for EVERY book that is read in order to get credit.
50 Points are due every three weeks. Due dates are as follows:
Tuesday, May 1st
Tuesday, May 22nd
Points Do Not roll over. Students must earn 50 points Every three weeks.
Grading Scale for Independent Reading:
A - 45-50 points
B - 40-44 points
C - 35-39 points
D - 30-34 points
F- 29 and below

- If a student takes an AR test, they need to fill out the short reflection form for 10 points.
- If there is no AR test, or the student does not want to take it, they must fill out the long reflection form for 20 points. (Reflection PDF is attached below.)
